Transcending the Scottish Postmodern City: Ken MacLeod’s Future Urban Geographies

A place cannot exist if it has not been imagined, perceived, as Alasdair Gray famously stated. Scottish Science Fiction goes a step further by emphasizing the need only to recognise and represent places, but also recreate re-imagine them in its possible futures. To (re-)imagine Scotland places means envision potential spaces. Ken MacLeod is one of figures who successfully managed set on map. His novels Intrusion (2012) Descent (2014) are remarkable examples what some critics have called ‘Transmodern fiction’. Both urban near-future they portray new configurations place. My analysis will focus interconnectedness presented both novels, creating territory that transcends Postmodern geographies. In MacLeod’s fiction, Transmodern conceived, where glocal virtual meet multifold reality without ever losing local specificity
